Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the approval of plans for 2,162 new settlement homes in the occupied West Bank, including a new settlement near Jerusalem.
Palestinian officials condemned the move, while the expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory continues to be regarded as illegal under international law.
