US federal workers risk livelihoods in push for course change on Gaza war

A federal government employee in the United States, along with a group of colleagues known as Feds United for Peace, organized a “day of mourning” to recognize the more than 100 days of war in Gaza. They took collective leave from their jobs to protest the rising death toll in Gaza and the U.S.’s role in the conflict. This action reflects growing discontent within President Joe Biden’s administration, even though Biden has expressed unwavering
support for Israel. The organizers, who chose to remain anonymous for fear of professional
consequences, represent employees from 27 government agencies, including the White House and Congress. They emphasized the importance of not standing on the sidelines
and being able to answer their children’s future questions about their actions during the Gaza war, which has resulted in over 24,200 Palestinian deaths and nearly 1.9 million displaced individuals.
