UN Special Rapporteur criticises Israel withdrawal from UN Human Rights Council (MEM)

The UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, condemned Israel’s decision to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), calling it “extremely serious.” Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that Israel was following the United States’ lead in leaving the council, accusing it of institutional bias against Israel. Albanese expressed concern that Israel’s actions could lead to further escalation in the West Bank, and she feared that the situation would worsen, leading to more violence. Israel, however, denies accusations of genocide, claiming it is acting in defense of its security interests in both the West Bank and Gaza.
