UN condemns ‘unacceptable’ level of violence against aid workers

The United Nations condemned the “unacceptable” violence against humanitarian workers, with a record 280 killed globally in 2023. The UN warned that the war in Gaza could lead to even higher numbers this year. Over half of the 2023 fatalities, or 163, were aid workers killed in Gaza, primarily by Israeli airstrikes. As of August 9, 176 aid workers have been killed worldwide in 2024, and more than 280 have died in Gaza since October, mostly from the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.
