Turkish communications director stresses firm commitment to peace in Palestine

Turkish Communications Director Fahrettin Altun reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to peace in Palestine, emphasizing the need to end violence and establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital based on 1967 borders. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Altun discussed Israel’s attacks on Palestine, counterterrorism efforts, and recent diplomatic contacts. He stressed Türkiye’s consistent support for Palestine and its efforts to keep the issue on the global agenda since the recent escalation on October 7. “There is no change in Türkiye’s policy towards Palestine,” Altun said, highlighting Türkiye’s role in supporting the oppressed, particularly Palestinians. He noted that Türkiye halted shipments of materials that could be used militarily by Israel prior to the Gaza conflict, reflecting the nation’s longstanding stance. Altun praised the Turkish public’s strong support for restricting and halting trade with Israel, setting an example for global sensitivity towards Gaza. He emphasized that Türkiye is the only country to have implemented such restrictions and stopped trade with Israel.
