South Africa bookshop accused of ‘censorship’ after children’s book on Palestine pulled

South Africa’s literary scene is embroiled in controversy after the country’s largest bookstore chain, Exclusive Books, pulled a children’s coloring book on Palestinian history and culture, sparking outrage and censorship accusations. The book, “From the River to the Sea” by Nathi Ngubane, was removed after the South African Jewish Board of Deputies called for its cessation, claiming it indoctrinates children. This controversy coincides with South Africa’s genocide case against Israel before the International Court of Justice and efforts to limit the Israeli assault on Gaza, which has killed over 36,500 Palestinians, mostly civilians.
