Students at Canadian universities say that the harsh measures taken to suppress their protests have only strengthened their determination. University of Waterloo student Nicholas Sarweh was shocked to receive an email informing him of a lawsuit for 1.5 million Canadian dollars ($1.09 million), initially believing it was a typo for $1,500. Sarweh, who led a months-long protest against Israel’s war on Gaza, had set up tents, fences, and signs on campus. Despite reduced public attention and students leaving for summer by the end of June, the lawsuit has intensified their resolve.
