Five Palestinians from Gaza, the West Bank, and the US have filed a lawsuit against the US government to halt military aid to Israel, citing human rights abuses. The lawsuit claims the US State Department violated the Leahy Law, which prohibits funding foreign military units involved in extrajudicial killings and torture. The plaintiffs argue that the State Department’s failure to apply this law is especially concerning given the escalation of Israeli violations since the Gaza War began on October 7, 2023. The lead plaintiff, a Gaza teacher named Amal Gaza, has been displaced seven times, with 20 family members killed in Israeli attacks.
