Israel’s intensified crackdown on Palestinian citizens opposing the Gaza war has led many to self-censor out of fear of imprisonment, while others carefully navigate dissent. Lawyer Ahmed Khalefa, charged with “inciting terrorism” for chanting at an anti-war protest in October 2023, spent three months in jail and remains under house arrest during evenings. He is among over 400 Palestinian citizens investigated for alleged incitement since the war began, with more than half facing charges or detention, according to rights group Adalah.
