Hundreds gathered outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington DC on Saturday, demanding a cease-fire in Gaza. Carrying Palestinian flags and banners with slogans like “Free Palestine” and “Stop The Genocide,” demonstrators voiced opposition to President Joe Biden’s policies. They also remembered US service member Aaron Bushnell, who tragically self-immolated in protest against Israel’s actions in Gaza. Bushnell, 25, an active-duty Air Force member, expressed in his will a desire for his ashes to be scattered in a free Palestine. He livestreamed his protest, denouncing complicity in what he called “genocide” and setting himself ablaze while dressed in military uniform, shouting “Freedom for Palestine” until he could no longer speak.
