Gaza children searching for food to keep families alive

Mohammed Zo’rab, an 11-year-old boy living in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, embarks on a daily mission to find food for his family amid the harsh conditions of conflict. He scours schools turned refugee centers, makeshift camps, hospitals, and other locations in search of food, often returning empty-handed. Mohammed’s family lives in a flimsy shelter, and his father struggles to find odd jobs to afford basic necessities. Mohammed is one of many children in Gaza who have become primary food gatherers for their families due to the ongoing conflict. Despite his struggles, Mohammed navigates crowded lines and remains proud of his ability to provide for his family. His mother, Samar, reveals she has cancer and struggles to access treatment and proper nutrition. The family fled their home in Khan Younis for safety but continues to face the impacts of war as conflict encroaches on Rafah.
