Blinken says no ‘red lines’ for Israel but warns against Rafah attack

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Sunday that there are no “red lines” that would prompt Washington to cease backing Israel in its conflict with Hamas. However, he cautioned against a full-scale ground invasion of the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Blinken, speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” emphasized the Biden administration’s opposition to a comprehensive attack on Rafah. He expressed concern over Israel’s lack of a credible plan to protect the city’s nearly 1.5 million Palestinian inhabitants, warning that an offensive could lead to an insurgency by Hamas fighters. While confirming unwavering support for Israel since the conflict began on Oct. 7 last year, Blinken suggested the possibility of suspending arms supplies to Tel Aviv if it were to occupy Rafah.
