Senior figures at Deutsche Welle (DW) are accused by 13 staff members and freelancers, along with a former correspondent, of fostering a culture of fear among journalists covering Israel’s war on Gaza. The employees claim DW exhibits pro-Israel and anti-Palestinian bias and that Islamophobic and dehumanizing remarks about Palestinians and protesters have been made openly in the Berlin office. Al Jazeera reported that internal documents provided by the staff include guidelines on how anchors should respond to “pro-Palestinian voices” and a style guide advising staff to use “Palestinian territories” instead of “Palestine” due to its lack of state recognition.
