In Gaza’s Deir al-Balah cemetery, gravedigger Sa’di Baraka and his team work tirelessly, often stacking graves or reopening old ones to accommodate the growing number of dead. With burial grounds destroyed or unreachable, the dead sometimes arrive from miles away. The 70-year-old cemetery now has a quarter of its graves newly dug, as Gaza’s death toll surpasses 40,000, according to the Health Ministry.
