An academic and cultural boycott against Israeli universities, spearheaded by the Palestine Campaign for Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), is gaining momentum, according to Nada Hussein, the Palestine and Arab World Coordinator of PACBI. The boycott, initiated in 2004 as part of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions for Palestinians (BDS) movement, aims to expose and deter Israeli violations against Palestinians in various domains. Targeting complicit Israeli institutions, the campaign has garnered increased global solidarity following Israeli attacks on Gaza. Notably, thousands of scientists and corporations have shown support since October 7, 2023. Hussein highlighted the “Genocide Case” filed by South Africa against Tel Aviv at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for alleged genocide against Palestinians, stressing the moral and legal imperative for a military embargo and international isolation of Israel in academia, culture, arts, and sports.
