Mountains of stinking rubbish across the war-torn Gaza Strip pose severe health and environmental dangers. Asmahan al-Masri, displaced from Beit Hanoun to Khan Younis, laments the conditions, saying, “I cry just like any other grandmother would over her grandchildren being sick and having scabies. This is like a slow death. There is no dignity.” Over eight months, more than 330,400 tonnes of solid waste have accumulated, according to the UN and humanitarian agencies.
