Israel promised ‘limited’ operation. Two months on, Rafah turned to rubble

Israel conducted a promised “limited” operation against Hamas fighters in Rafah on May 6, but after two months, the city has been transformed into a deserted, dust-covered ghost town. The Associated Press photojournalist, among the first foreign journalists permitted entry, observed widespread destruction. International journalists are generally barred from Gaza, where over 150 Palestinian journalists have been killed reporting on the conflict. The city now features abandoned, bullet-ridden buildings with walls blown out and shattered windows, rubble piles lining roads frequented by Israeli military vehicles, and few remaining civilians.
