Nearly 2 million people in Gaza have been displaced, almost the entire population, following an Israeli military order for 80,000 more people to evacuate parts of Gaza City amid a renewed ground operation, according to the latest UN figures. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have intensified assaults in several areas, including the Shujaya neighborhood. UNRWA estimates that up to 1.9 million people in Gaza are internally displaced, about 90% of the population. The displacement figure has risen from 1.7 million since Israel’s offensive on Rafah in May. The ongoing conflict, aimed at dismantling Hamas and rescuing Israeli hostages, raises questions about its duration and conclusion.
