Türkiye pushes for Hamas-Fatah reconciliation amid rising Israeli attacks

Last week, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz met with Jibril Rajoub, Secretary General of Fatah’s Central Committee, in Ankara to discuss Palestinian reconciliation. The August 22 meeting followed the assassination of Khalil al-Maqdah, a senior Fatah commander, by Israel, sparking concerns of a regional war. Türkiye’s engagement comes amid escalating violence in Gaza and the West Bank, where Fatah, led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, holds power, reflecting Türkiye’s ongoing mediation efforts during rising tensions.
